Travel Tip Tuesday: Navigating Airports During Government Shutdowns

Hi there, Travel Tip Tuesday and my tip today is this. My crooked glasses here. You know that the government is shut down and there’s been some issues at the airport in regards to the lines at the TSA or flights being canceled. But there’s also the situation where these people are not getting paid to work. The air traffic controllers and TSA are not getting paid. It’s 30 days in and they may not get any pay back for the work that they’re doing.

So, when you’re going through, you’ve got to be kind, you got to be nice to the TSA people. For your own personal situation, you have to also make sure that you know what’s going on. Get on your airline apps, get on the FAA app and make sure that you know your flights are going and plan ahead. Get to the airport early. Just yesterday, there was a four-plus hour wait in Houston at TSA.

There’s one other thing that you can do. You can’t give like uh, they can’t accept gifts or contributions at the TSA, but if you want to do something, you can give gift cards. And you should find a supervisor and say you’d like to give this to give away as like a raffle or something that they’ll do, and they will accept those. So there is something that at least you can do a little bit of something for those TSA workers. It’s a tough job right now. It’s not going to get any easier as this shut down continues.
